Buhari Is Capable Of Ending Corruption In Nigeria – John Kerry

US Secretary of State, Mr. John Kerry, yesterday said that President Muhammadu Buhari is capable of flushing corruption out of Nigeria.
John Kerry made this remark during a bilateral meeting he had with President Buhari at the Department of State in Washington, DC, during his four-day working visit.

Kerry said the United States government would do all it could to support the president’s fight against corruption and corrupt leaders, both past and current.

He added that the decision of the president to bring a very significant delegation with a number of governors to Washington D.C. for the working visit showed his ability to introduce reforms.

“And I might mention the president is deeply committed to tackling the problem of corruption, which has prevented the country from doing many of the developmental and other initiatives that are on the table” he added.

Speaking further, Secretary Kerry described Nigeria as an important country, stressing that both countries had very important interests together.
“Nigeria is an extraordinary important country. We have pledged with the president’s meeting yesterday to work very closely on development of the economy, on counterterrorism, on regional issues, but, very importantly also, to join together in an effort to do a better job of taking on Boko Haram.

“The president is deeply committed to this endeavour. He has a military background. He has himself been in combat. He has led the armed forces of his country and he knows what this is going to take.

“So we have a ready and willing partner, and we look forward to developing our counterterrorism and our counter-Boko Haram plans even as we also work on energy development, on education, health, and other issues within the country,” Kerry said.

You must discipline Melaye, Tinubu writes Saraki

By Henry Umoru & Joseph Erunke *** Petitions APC National Chairman, Oyegun, Says Melaye threatened to Rape her *** As Melaye Apologises to Senate, refuses to apologize to Tinubu Senator Oluremi Tinubu and Dino Melaye ABUJA- CHAIRMAN, Senate Committee on Women Affairs, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday petitioned Senate President Bukola Saraki, and the Chairman of APC, Chief John Odigie Oyegun, saying that her colleague, Senator Dino Melaye, APC, Kogi West threatened to rape her. She asked the Senate to discipline Senator Melaye following what happened last week when there was a misunderstanding between them. In a letter dated 19th July, 2016, Senator Tinubu asked the Senate President and the Senate to punish him because he remains a danger to her and the senate at large, alleging that Senator Melaye has promised twice within one week to attack her. According to her, Senator Melaye has become what she described as unmoored and has since paraded his misconduct in public as if to threaten a female senator was a badge of pride, adding, ” Unless Senator Melaye is appropriately disciplined, he remains a danger to me and to the Senate at large. He has promised twice within one week to attack me.” Senator Tinubu also petitioned the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie Oyegun, asking the party to as a matter of urgency intervene in the matter as a party with zero tolerance for gender discrimination and to restore its reputation as a vehicle of positive change and not an arm of regression and in tolerance towards women. She said, “Iam both a ranking Senator and a woman. But Senator Melaye took neither into consideration as he issued threats of rape and assault, whiIe boasting that he would face no consequence even if he fulfilled these criminal threats. “

Why we can’t impeach Buhari — REPS

THE House of Representatives, weekend,  said it had no single evidence of impeachable offences against President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking through the House Chief Whip, Alhaji Alhassan Doguwa, who represents All Progressives Congress, APC, Doguwa/Tudun Wada Constituency in Kano State, insisted that no such issue was contemplated in the House of Representatives.

Fielding questions from newsmen, Doguwa said: “As far as I am concerned, I am a member of House of Representatives and a principal officer of the House; the National Assembly is a twin institution; we have the House and we have the Senate. If there is any insinuation or speculation about the impeachment of Mr President in any chamber rather than the House of Representatives, that, I don’t know,

“But I want to be very straight forward to you that we don’t have such a consideration before us. That matter is not even being contemplated; it was not even at any point in time thought of. After all, we do not have any evidence of impeachable offence with which to use against Mr President.

He described as unfounded, speculations on purported impeachment plans, adding that “it is mere speculation on the street and should be left at that level.”

What I did with Dasuki’s money – Okupe

FORMER Senior Special Assistant to the ex- president Goodluck Jonathan on public affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, Sunday explained why was paid various sums of money from the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) Okupe also took a swipe at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC for leaking to the media his health status which he had revealed to the commission’s operative in confidence designed for it to understand his special needs. According to him, for not getting clearance or authorization from him before the information was revealed to the media, was not only a breach of confidence reposed on the anti- graft agency, but designed to embarrass him as a person. Doyin Okupe In a statement he signed yesterday and made available to Journalists, Okupe explained how he got various sums of money from the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) which has now become the subject of investigation by the EFCC. Denying being linked to any unwholesome benefits from the NSA, he said it became imperative to explain based on media reports that he was involved in N162million and N85million fraud, adding that in his interactions so far with the anti-graft agency, he had only been requested to make clarifications in three areas. Okupe who lambasted the EFCC said, “I confided in the officers of the commission about my health situation for them to understand why where and how I sleep was important to my overall well being. “Without clearance or authorization by me this information was revealed to the media. “I woke up to hear it on radio broadcast nationwide and was published in many newspapers. This is a sad development and a definite breach of the confidence I reposed on the commission as an institution of government. “I was born with sinus bradycadia, a non disease based slowness of the heart. It precluded me from vigorous exercise from childhood but I have by God’s Grace been able to live a normal and active life. “With age the slowness grew worse and life threatening. I sought medical help and went through a procedure at the Arrhythmia cardiac Research center in Atlanta, where this defect was corrected. Its just a year ago and I am still under satellite monitor from the USA. The statement said these include: “Why I received N50m from the  office of the  National Security Adviser at the onset of my appointment, and what I used the money for. “Why I was paid N10m monthly by the Office of the National Security Adviser. “Why I received another sum of N50m from the NSA in October 2014. “The initial N50m was approved by the President to be paid to me from His Security vote. N10m was to furnish my rented living apartment and another N10m for my office. The balance N30m was approved as take off grant for my office. “The N10m I received from the Office of the National Security Adviser  monthly was to run my office, pay salaries of staff, including overheads, pay expenses for our numerous press conferences, pay for publications in newspapers, magazines, local and foreign, television programs, bulletins, and media consultants who assist and facilitate our work. “I had about 23 staff, 11 were graduates out of which 5 were Masters degrees holders. Details were submitted to EFCC. “The second N50m was approved again by Mr President when I reported to him that the monthly allowance has been cut from N10m to N5m and that I was no longer in a position to keep running a 1hr NTA network program called INSIGHT which was aired 9-10am every Friday and some other days of the week. “We paid NTA about N1.2m monthly for airtime. Two presenters were paid N600,000 monthly. We paid for tapes and Editing per program. “Besides we also pay honorarium for guests either directly or inform of hotel bills for those outside Abuja, or transportation. “This cost averagely N500,000 weekly or about N 2m monthly. All in all we spent about N4m monthly on the program. “Mr President promised to help with the expenses. About a few months later when we had incurred some debts, the NSA sent me a sum of N50m which was to cover the cost of the program for 12 months(12×N4m=N48m).” Okupe who  wondered why payment made to his private company for handling a state government contract had been linked to his function as a presidential aide, said,  “The Fact however is that my company Romix soilfix was one of the over 20 construction companies who were duly awarded contracts for rural roads some 5yrs ago by the Niger state govt. “Due to lack of funds, contractors were paid irregularly thus making the job to drag on for long. The job is still on going. The relationship of this to my service as Senior Special assistant to President is still not clear.” “This is what I revealed to the EFCC and they made it a public issue. “I have been in public service in more than 20years. Because of my pedigree, I have by deliberate policy avoided anything that will bring shame to me and my family. “In spite of my high level involvement in politics and government, I have never done directly or indirectly any federal government contracts. In the whole of this world, I have only two houses. One in Lagos and another in my home town. I have no house elsewhere including Abuja. “It is a pity that the situation in the country is so bad that everybody believes that there are no men with honour in politics or government. It is not true. I have submitted all my personal and company accounts to the EFCC. I have nothing to hide.”

Buhari orders IGP to re-open Bola Ige, Dokubo’s cases

By Kingsley Omonobi & Ola Ajayi ABUJA — President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, directed the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to reopen investigation into the unresolved murder of former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige, and ex-Deputy National Chairman, South-South, of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Aminosari Dokubo, and fish out the perpetrators. The killing of the two personalities caused national outrage, with Nigerians calling on the government of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to fish out the killers who have still not been found. Late Bola Ige Recall that Chief Bola Ige was shot dead  in his bedroom in Bodija, Ibadan, home at about  9pm on December 23, 2001, after he arrived Ibadan from Lagos at about 8.30pm. His security details were said to have sought permission from the former Attorney General to go and eat before the incident occurred. The gunmen, who were said to have been waiting in the vicinity, then stormed the house and tied up family members. One of the gunmen reportedly pointed a gun at a family member and asked him to lead them upstairs to Chief Bola Ige’s room. They allegedly moved the wife and his son to an adjourning room, locked them up before shooting their target in the chest. Vanguard gathered from sources that towards unearthing the perpetrators of these unresolved murders, the Acting Inspector General of Police has instituted a high powered investigation team, headed by an Assistant Inspector General of Police, to crack the case. Following the death of the late Bola Ige, several unsubstantiated allegations were made against several politicians and interest groups, with some even saying the ‘Cicero’, as he was fondly called, was killed to halt the rise in his political profile, while others said it had to do with his impending probe of the corruption in the power sector of the nation’s economy. Dokubo’s assassination On the part of Chief Aminosari Dokubo, the late PDP Deputy National Chairman was said to be returning to his base from Abuja after a meeting when he was waylaid by suspected assassins on entering Delta State. He was killed near Asaba on October 22, 2004. Dokubo’s assassination at the time was alleged to have been caused by certain disagreements with the powers that be in his political party, prior to the general elections. A source told Vanguard that the fact that the killers and their sponsors were still prowling the streets without arrest and prosecution for crimes against humanity, was a dangerous trend which, if not addressed, might lead to killing of more political leaders either now or in the future. It’s a new day— Bola Ige’s son Reacting to the development, Architect  Muyiwa Ige, son of late Chief Bola Ige, said last night that it would be glorious, if the family could get  justice 16 years after. Muyiwa, who could not hide his happiness, said President Buhari did not disappoint him, saying the matter was now in the right direction. He said:  “I knew right from the advent of the administration of President Buhari that the matter would be resurrected. The President is in the right direction. To God be the glory. It’s a new day; we are happy, we will get justice after 16 years. “We are happy that all those who murdered our father, including the star witness, will be brought to justice. It’s good news.”

Nigerians would Resis any Impeahment Threat on Buhari. APC Governors.

Obaseki, Edo APC guber candidate, promises 200,000 jobs at campaign launch GOVERNORS of the All Progressives Congress (APC), yesterday, warned that Nigerians will resist any attempt to re- move President Muham- madu Buhari from office. The governors, under the aegis of Progressive Governors Forum, spoke on a day an attempted coup in Turkey claimed 161 lives and over 1,440 were injured in the incident while 2,839 suspected coup plotters were arrested. Last week, there had been reports of threat by the Senate to impeach Buhari. The threat came amid the face-off between the Presi- dency and the Senate fol- lowing the decision of the Minister of Justice and At- torney General of the Fed- eration, Abubakar Mala- mi, to charge Senate Presi- dent Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Senator Ike Ekwer- emadu, and two others for alleged forgery of the 2015 Standing Order of the Sen- ate that was used to elect them. Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State spoke on behalf of the APC Governors Forum, yesterday, at the flag-off of the cam- paign of the candidate of the party in the September 10 governorship election in the state, Mr Godwin Obaseki, saying the peo- ples power is behind Buhari. “We know that corruption will fight back and it is fighting back. And that is why we went for a tested army general to lead the corruption fight. They will fight back but they will be crushed. We reaffirm our confidence in the President, we don’t want any impeachment, we stand for democracy. The coup was resisted in Turkey, that is how Nigerians will resist any attempt to impeach the President”, Oshiomhole said. “The anti-corruption war must go on, Nigeria’s econ- omy will be repositioned and the people will be wit- nesses to prosperity. Peace is already returning to the North East. It will return to the Niger Delta and Nige- ria will be prosperous again”. Oshiomhole and Chief John Oyegun Meanwhile, over two thousand members of the PDP in Edo, led by a veter- an politician and one of the founding fathers of the PDP in the state, Chief Samson Esemuede, defect- ed to the APC at the occa- sion, declaring their sup- port for the candidate of the APC, Obaseki. National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Od- igie-Oyegun, who handed over, to Obaseki and his running mate, Philip Shua- ibu, the APC flags, de- scribed Obaseki as a hard- working and focused young man “ who will make us proud after Oshi- omhole”. The Director General of the Obaseki Campaign Organization, Osarodion Ogie, in his speech, said Obaseki is “a good product for Edo peo- ple and that is why Edo people are behind him”. The flag-off ceremony was colourful as the Sam- uel Ogbemudia Stadium, venue of the event, was filled to capacity while about 12 governors of the APC were led by the Chair- man of the Progressives Governors Forum and governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha. Prior to the event, the APC governors had held a meeting where they urged Nigerians to continue to support Buhari just as they expressed optimism that the current hardship being witnessed by Nigerians would soon be a thing of the past. Okorocha, who read a communique to journalists issued after the meeting, also said the Forum had resolved to “solidly back Obaseki because Edo is APC and we must retain it for our party ”. Oshiomhole, who addressed the crowd at the campaign flag-off, vowed to ensure that Obaseki emerges the next governor of Edo. He said: “The President is doing a fine job and, for the first time, we are seeing a President call- ing on senior military of- ficers to account, calling on governors to account. Now we are hearing people talking about impeachment. Just a few hours ago, we heard about the coup in Turkey. Nigerian people unconditionally have resolved to support President Buhari”. Oshiomhole recalled his achievements in the past seven and a half years and challenged the candidate of the PDP in the forthcoming Edo election, Pastor Os- agie Ize-Iyamu, to walk the streets of Benin with his former boss, Lucky Ig- binedion, and see “how many stones they will col- lect”. He said the PDP un- derdeveloped Edo for ten years and therefore de- serves no sympathy from the people. The governor used the opportunity to react to the allegation by the PDP that he denied it the use of the stadium during the flag off of its governorship cam- paign, explaining: “I don’t want to be joined in their illegality since a Federal High Court had earlier de- clared that Modu Sheriff was the authentic Chair- man of the PDP. And Ize- Iyamu and his fathers be- long to the Makarfi-led faction. So, based on that, I decided to obey the court order ”. APC governors in Benin He urged the EFCC to prosecute Ize-Iyamu over the N700million cam- paign fund he allegedly re- ceived on behalf of Edo PDP. On his part, Obaseki promised to create 200,000 jobs in Edo in his first four years through agriculture and entrepreneurship while attracting investors to the state. “In the face of the new economic chal- lenge we face, we need lead- ership with fresh and orig- inal ideas to take on these new challenges, so that we can build on and deepen the successes of the current administration”, the APC candidate said. “There is only one course of action – we must be cou- rageous and determined. We must build on and ex- tend the successes of the current administration to achieve the aspirations of Edo people. I stand before you today on the giant shoulders of the success of the Comrade Governor. “Over the last seven and a half years, we have trans- formed Edo and achieved what was said to be impos- sible. However, the Edo project is work in progress and we are at the most del- icate part of this journey. “We cannot afford any reversals or slowdown in the pace of the achieve- ments we have made to date. There is a lot more that still has to be done- we still have to construct thou- sands of kilometers of roads into rural communi- ties and farms; scores of schools still need to be ren- ovated; we need to further strengthen our service de- livery to our people by training and equipping our civil service; “We need to address the issue of massive unemploy- ment especially amongst our youths by providing sustainable jobs; we need to give our people more and better access to health- care if fact there is still so much more to be done. “It will be a huge risk for all of us if we revert politi- cal power to those who lack deep understanding of how to link the achieve- ments of the last 7 years with the current situation in Nigeria. What Edo State needs today is someone who has the capacity to raise and access the invest- ments required to build on the past in order to realize the vision. “What Edo needs today is a leader who in addition to political sagacity, has the managerial and intellectu- al experience to manage the State of Affairs in the difficult and precarious sit- uation we find ourselves”. I wish you well, Crown Prince tells Obaseki Meanwhile, the Crown Prince of Benin Kingdom, Eheneden Erediauwa, yes- terday, expressed the wish that Obaseki will be the next governor of Edo. During a visit of APC governors to the Crown Prince in Benin-City, the Edaiken said it is not good to be in the opposition. Erediauwa, who praised Oshiomhole, said, “On be- half of the chiefs, the royal family and the Benin King- dom, I want to specially welcome here the guberna- torial aspirant and his run- ning mate, the one I call my son. He is always so shy. I don’t know how he is able to play politics. I want to welcome all of you for coming here today. I am very delighted and ho- noured to see the chieftains of the APC, and we are sure that the state is moving on strong with the APC. I have always said one thing, and I have repeated it that in Benin, the monarch is not partisan. However, it is not always too easy to be in the opposition with the party at the centre in Abuja.” Governor Adams Oshiomhole ( standing, right), introduces APC gubernatorial candidate in Edo State, Mr Godwin obaseki amd his running mate, Hon Philip Shaibu to His Royal Highness, Crown Prince Eheneden Erediauwa, Edaiken N’Uselu, during the visit of the Progressives Governors’ Forum to the Crown Prince, on Saturday He continued, “So, when Adams Oshiomhole, the Comrade Governor, took the reins of office here, and it was APC, the PDP was in charge in Abuja; we were all wondering: how is he going to do it? How is he going to get the attention of the Federal Govern- ment? How is he going to pool all the resources that he needs to work in the state? As you all know, he worked miracles. He did a lot of things which many people thought could not be done. He worked al- most along the same line the Governor of Lagos State at the time, Fashola. So, they were virtually like two brothers working to- gether in the face of the opposition. “So, we can only pray that may the God and our ancestors protect the gu- bernatorial candidates, give them the wisdom to put food on the table of the masses because, for us, our first concern are the peo- ple and, of course, he will be a great respecter, like our Comrade Governor. He should do better than him, to be a great respecter of the traditional institution.”

/irate-youths-destroy-catholic-church-property-attack-worshippers/

A group of Muslim youths on Friday attacked St. Philip’s Catholic Parish, Baki Iku, close to Zuma Rock in Niger State. According to eyewitnesses, some Catholics had gone to the church to pray when they were attacked by the Muslims who claimed that Friday was their day of prayer and that the church only had right to worship on Sundays. The youths were said to have destroyed the church’s property, including doors and the windows. Some soldiers managed to get there later, but not before harm had been done to the building. Worshippers ran away in different directions to avoid being killed. Rev. Fr. Luka Sylvester Gopep, the Vicar-General of the Diocese, confirmed the incident. Gopep said: “Sometime around 2pm, some Muslim youths in their hundreds left their mosque after their Friday Jumat prayer and rushed to the church premises, climbed the wall and destroyed everything in the church: the windows, the altar, musical instruments, the chapel. “The security man in the church premises was beaten to pulp. “Some women who were holding a prayer meeting were chased away. “The seminarian who is resident in the premises was also beaten up and chased away.” Niger State Police Command spokesman, Bala Elkana, confirmed the story, adding, however, that no life was lost. He said the prompt response of the police stopped the situation from escalating.

Melaye To Remi Tinubu: "I Will Beat You, Impregnate You" - Premium Times

Untold Story Of The Senators Dino Melaye–remi Tinubu Closed-door Clash

PREMIUM TIMES has obtained further details of the altercation between Senators Dino Melaye (APC-Kogi) and Remi Tinubu (APC-Lagos) which saw both lawmakers calling each other names and charging at each other.

Those who witnessed the incident, which occurred during a closed-door meeting held by senators on Tuesday, said trouble started when Mr. Melaye urged the Senate to descend heavily on members who had offered to serve as prosecution witnesses in the ongoing forgery case against Senate President Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.

The Kogi senator is said to have accused the senators of being used by the presidency to destabilise the Senate and warned them to be ready to face the consequences of their action.

“You should go and tell those who sent you that nobody, I said nobody, no matter who he is, can ever control this Senate, ” Mr. Melaye was quoted as saying as he pointed at the affected senators, his face contorted in rage.

Our sources said when Mrs. Tinubu was recognised to speak, she rose, and said, “I’m just wondering why whenever Senator Dino speaks in this chamber, he is always threatening people and behaving childishly and at times like a thug.

“I think he needs to know that every senator here represents their constituencies. And that there is no need to threaten anyone.

“We are seeking and working towards reconciliation, yet you are busy issuing threats.”

One of our sources said at this point, Mr. Melaye jumped up from his seat and charged towards Mrs. Tinubu, saying, “Look this is not Bourdillon (referring to the famous Lagos residence of Mrs Tinubu’s politician husband). I will beat you up, ….. impregnate you and nothing will happen.”

Witnesses said as Mr. Melaye charged towards the Lagos senator, other senators, especially those from the South-West geopolitical zone, waded in and shielded Mrs. Tinubu from attack, and then calmed her down.

A few other senators also prevailed on Mr. Melaye to take it easy and let peace reign, sources said.

“We had to move in to save the situation because he had already overwhelmed her with his voice,” one of the senators, who calmed Mrs. Tinubu down, said.

“Many dirty thing do happen during closed-door sessions, but people don’t get to hear about it,” another senator said. “But now that the senate is divided, proceedings at executive sessions are being leaked to the press.

“Yesterday was one of such dirty sessions, there was ramblings, uproar and profanities. It was so sad.”

Also during the meeting, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe (PDP-Abia) called on the Senate to go for President Muhammadu Buhari’s “jugular”.

When colleagues asked him what he meant, the senator said it had become clear that Mr. Buhari had no respect for the Senate and that the time had come for him to be impeached.

Mr. Abaribe said the president was encouraging his subordinates to disrespect the upper chamber and that only two options were now open to the senate – go for the president’s jugular (impeachment) or continue to seek reconciliation that might not work.

Mr. Melaye on Wednesday morning said reports that he was planning to initiate impeachment proceeding against President Buhari were untrue. But he was silent on reports that he threatened Senator Tinubu or used the “F” word on her.

The Kogi senator could not be reached to comment for this story. Calls to his known telephone number failed to connect.

Mrs. Tinubu too did not answer or return multiple calls made to her by PREMIUM TIMES on Wednesday morning.

Former Minster of Education and Bring Back Our Girls, BBOG, activist, Oby Ezekwesili ‏has voiced out her concerns as regards the incessant attacks by the herdsmen on citizens of the country.

Oby in a series of tweets called out the Federal Government on its inaction to the massacres and attacks perpetrated by the Fulani herdsmen.

She further called on the president, Muhammadu Buhari to sit up and act accordingly in order to bring an end to recurrence of the mayhem.

She wrote:

– No nation survives Government inaction in the face of persistent assault on VALUE of LIFE. At what point will FG DECISIVELY TACKLE HERDSMEN?No nation survives Government inaction in the face of persistent assault on VALUE of LIFE. At what point will FG DECISIVELY TACKLE HERDSMEN?

– Many times, one has asked the FG to replicate its counter-insurgency effort in tackling #HERDSMEN. Why is there a seeming lack of TRACTION?

– I had written several other times that TENTATIVENESS on #HERDSMEN is eerily similar to how Boko Haram was handled in early days. WHY REPEAT?

– Human Dignity is the CORE VALUE on which healthy social interaction is forged & social capital accumulated. WHY HAVE WE TRASHED THIS VALUE?

– My heart goes out to our Benue State kith & kin who once again have NEEDLESSLY been slaughtered. FG MUST ACT TO END TO THE KILLINGS. ACT!!!

– Why has NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE failed to offer the Nigerian public a COHERENT information on this menace of #HERDSMEN? WHO ARE THEY, REALLY??

She further metioned the recent killing of two women, Bridget Agbahime in Kano and more recently, Eunice Elisha’s killing by suspected Islamists in Abuja. She wrote:

– Two women – Bridget Agbahime & now
Eunice Elisha have been NEEDLESSLY KILLED for their faith. FG & @PoliceNG OWE THEM SPEEDY JUSTICE.

– As I had indicated when #BridgetAgbahime was killed in cold blood in Kano, WE are following the @PoliceNG prosecution CLOSELY 4 her JUSTICE.

Omo.. See as Agbero use stone destroy person head..

A 27 year old man was killed while several others were injured on Friday, when two factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), engaged in a supremacy battle at Odunfa area of Lagos Island. The victim, Adeoye Busari, was preparing for the Jumat service, when he was attacked and slaughtered by a man identified simply as Azeez.

It was learnt that after Busari was slaughtered, his head was then shattered with stones, while his body was later dumped inside a gutter. Witnesses said many residents sustained various degrees of injury as a result of sporadic gunshots.

The armed hoodlums were said to be over 50. The clash paralysed commercial activities in the area. “The clash started on Friday, after some hoodlums, who were loyal to the incumbent chairman, Sego, came to Odunfa Street and started attacking those loyal to the factional leader, Jamiu Erinfolami. Erinfolami is supposed to be made the chairman.

The faction members came and started vandalising vehicles parked on the streets. They also looted shops,” a resident said. When our correspondent visited the area on Saturday, streets like Onala, Massey, Okepopo, Odunfa and Apatir, were littered with broken bottles on the road. Vehicles with shattered windscreens were also seen.

Another resident, Mrs. Tawa Adio, said: “The crisis started last Thursday after some hoodlums, suspected to be loyalists of the incumbent chairman from Onala, stormed Odunfa Street and started chasing people. But there were no casualties that day. The following day, which was Friday, the hoodlums came and also started shooting sporadically.

They destroyed people’s shops. “The late Busari, who was preparing for the Jumat service, was attacked and slaughtered by Azeez. Busari’ s head was shattered with stones, while his body was later dumped in a gutter in the area. The deceased would have survived the attacked, but many people had disappeared for fear they might be attacked.
